MOYO MMOJA WOMEN'S CENTER
MOSHI, TANZANIA

You can be a part of MOYO MMOJA (MOYO MMOJA means ONE HEART… Kiswahili meaning is one heart working together)… first in prayer and supplication, but then in your financial giving… I am sharing with you the current needs to continue with the classes at MMWC. Please prayerfully consider and then make your tax-deductible financial gift to FIRE International. Please remember to write my name, Alice Limpert/MMWC on the memo line of your check.

Vicki, Grace, Alice Tobi and Josh Peters (Director of FI) standing in front of MMWC and we are all excited about the opening of classes which began in January 2006.

The MMWC has been built with the Lord at the helm… It is a beautiful place, and we are so excited to be opened for training and advancement.
The Vision
The vision for the MOYO MMOJA WOMEN’S CENTER (translation: ONE HEART working together) has been birthed out of the need to reach the women and children of the world with the love of God in very practical ways. Our goal is to train women in a trade for which they can earn a living, raise up their children in a Godly way and be a blessing to their families and their communities. The center will provide on going day-care and teaching for the children of these women during the time of their training. The center will endeavor to train them that they might be able to train others, have the potential to earn a fair wage and have an on-going relationship with the Author of Life, who is Jesus Christ.

I have stepped into this picture and this place as only God could have arranged. We desire to see the women and children of this area be trained so that they will reach their individual potential and destiny.

Alice, Grace and Vicki…a three-strand cord is not easily broken. The Lord has brought us together ‘for such a time as this.’

On January 16th, Vicki and I went shopping for sewing machines with the monies that were gifted for buying them…we still need one more. We were so happy that the Hindu man that sold them to us reduced the price greatly and that we bought 3 instead of 2. His wife is interested in helping us with the children’s work when we begin the Montessori classes for the age 6 and under children of the women who come to the center.

We had the machines serviced by a fundi (craftsman) and he got the machines ready for sewing classes to begin. Glory was our first student and she is doing so well. She has already completed a blouse and skirt for herself. You will see more details about Glory in my May newsletter. If you are not currently on the mailing list to receive my newsletters, please send your name and address to office@fiworks.net and make sure you write a note saying you would like to be put on the Limpert mailing list.

Grace Marandu, who is doing the work of our accounting and administration, was so happy to see the funds come in for the machines. We all pray together and believe God is blessing MMWC with all she needs.

The day we purchased the machines the landlord loaned us his truck and his brother as a driver to help us get the machines ‘down the mountain’ to MMWC. The road is a dirt mountain road and can be very tricky…especially now in rainy season. The workers at the shop where we bought them were being very careful…it is not often they would make a sale of 3 machines in one day…

Glory absolutely loves coming to MMWC… in my May newsletter I have interviewed her and have taken a number of pictures that share her story and life with the readers. She walks for 1 hour in order to arrive at the center at 8 am every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday…She often stays later than the class times because she loves being there.

Vicki had 1 student to begin and for about 2 weeks Glory was our only student…she had Vicki’s undivided attention as the only student and she loves the challenge that is before her. Then, even we moved forward with Glory, God just opened the doors and today we have 6 students. You will be reading about the other students in future updates and I will do a personal interview with each of them so you can get to know them.

Grace is such a blessing to us because she has much ‘life experience’. She has also worked for 3 other organizations in the past and she is very familiar with the ‘ins and outs’ of what we need to do to stay in line with the requirements of the Tanzanian government as an NGO (Non-Government Organization), working here in Moshi as a Non-Profit representation of FIRE International. She is also very administrative and has helped to develop the charter and constitution for MMWC as an on-going work in Africa. She also brings with her a desire to see MMWC reach the potential and destiny God has set in place…and to see the women and children of this area prosper because of the end result of training at MMWC.

We have designed a special type of ironing board to use at the center. It stays standing all the time as a reminder to all of the students that ironing is a very necessary part of our training…ultimately the finished product will look good because we have cared about being ‘excellent’ in all we do. The students are beginning already to see the difference between just ordinary work and excellent work, which glorifies God and makes the customer very happy too. We are also producing ironing boards to sell, which will help to support MMWC financially. The goal ultimately is that the training center will be self supporting and no other outside funds would be needed….we hope for this to happen within our 5-year, 4-phase plan of growth.

Each day is a new challenge for the students because they are not just learning to sew…though that is very important here and a very profitable way to make a living here in Moshi. They are learning many things, i.e.; how to cut many different kinds of fabrics, how to use a hammer, a paint brush, tiny tacks to finish things, they are learning how to calculate measurements and how to use patterns for sewing
(not usual here in Africa). They are learning a business education as well…how to operate their own business and take good care of the customer…and how to do excellent work. They are having a great time together, getting to know each other and working together, even in small teams. Our goal is to eventually take them by 2’s into people’s homes and help them to decorate their homes in beautiful ways.

It is also our desire and goal to micro-finance these women into their own businesses. When that happens, they win over the system here which tells them they will never get ahead or have a good and prosperous life for themselves and their children. Remember that MMWC is a place for women who have been left behind…the widows, the divorcees, the single moms, and the single ladies over 18 who have never had an opportunity to finish school and make something of their lives. Some of these women have children who need an increased level of care, and we desire to see the children grow, as well, into young men and women of the Lord.

Since this work has been birthed out of prayer and the desire to see the women and children advanced in their lives, we would be remit to not include the Truth of our lives, who is Jesus, the Christ, Himself. The students are treated to chai (tea) and goodies each study day for a 30-minute break to learn about the One who loves them more than we do. We also start the sessions with a short time of prayer and we worship the Lord in song before we begin the work each day. Some will come to know Him in a very personal way…and making disciples is the ‘charge’ given to all who love Him and are called to His purposes.

Please know that your financial gift is helping real people, in real situations that are of great need, and the results will be real blessings to them and their families and their communities.
